OUR STORY

The Beginning

Enrolled in a 3 year fashion design course at Fanshawe College in London was where I started my sewing journey. I knew nothing about designing or sewing, but I loved shopping and drawing people, so my mother suggested: why not fashion? I wasn't great at it at first, and struggled through, but by the time I graduated I was one of the top of my class, and out of 60 of us to start, there were only 7 of us left.

It wasn't until 2006 that I started sewing as a small business. Starting out, I did all kinds of sewing work; alterations, custom work, contract work, etc.

In 2009 was when Wickid Wear came to flourish. A friend suggested that I start designing and sewing gymnastics leotards, as there was no one local to buy from in the Niagara Region.

I knew I didn't want my name to be part of the business name, but I was stumped. It was actually my long time nail technician, Joan, who suggested "Wicked" as part of the name while I was getting a pedicure. "Wicked" was something all of the kids were saying, and so we switched out the "ked" to "kid". We also played into the "Wicked Witch" vibe, where all of the names for our items came from.

I first started with just a Serger and a single needle machine in the basement of my home. While I still work from my home, we converted our garage into a two-story studio with 16 industrial sewing machines all set up to do different stitches and then some. We also employ contract workers during our busiest season

The Promise

We believe in quality over quantity, every time. I also believe that we should be proud of every piece that we create. We promise that we will always stay Canadian made in every aspect of the product.

Additionally, being a mom, I understand that kids in sports can be pricey. I built this business with the value that it doesn't matter what kind of income you have coming in, I will keep my pricing inclusive. I believe that every child should feel special and have the confidence that they can do anything, and I hope that Wickid Wear inspires that confidence.

The Rebrand

In 2023, we decided that we wanted to branch out further into more athletic wear for more than just dance and gymnastics. We wanted to reach out into the yoga and racket sports market, and our current branding just didn't seem to fit.

We still wanted to keep the cat and some of those witch-y vibes, so we came up with this cat's face x lotus look, and fell in love! We felt like this was the perfect cross-over from the old look with the black cat to a new target market while still staying whimsical.

The People

My name is Spring, and I'm the person behind Wickid Wear. I have poured my heart into this business, and hope that it shows in my craftmanship.

I also believe that life is too short to always be working; memories are the key ingredient to living life to the fullest! I love to travel and go on adventures, hike with friends and husband, paddleboard and play games with my two boys, and play with my giant puppy, Finley Dinkleman.

I value Canadian Made products, and believe that we should keep business local whenever possible.
